Purpose
The Training and Development sub committee (T and D) is responsible for managing the identification of training needs; feeding those into the planning and commissioning of training; and evaluation of multi-agency training to ensure that it is meeting local needs.
The purpose of multi agency training is to help develop and foster the following in order to achieve better outcomes for children and young people:
A shared understanding of tasks, processes, principles and roles, both nationally and locally, for safeguarding children.
More effective and integrated services at both the strategic and individual case level.
Improved communications between professionals, including a common understanding of key terms, definitions and thresholds for action.
Effective working relationships, including an ability to work in multi disciplinary teams.
Sound decision making based on information sharing, thorough assessment, critical analysis and professional judgement.
Specific responsibilities
To lead on the development of training within the context of local and national policy and practice developments. This may include specific issues raised by sub-committees of the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB).
To develop a training strategy that reflects the needs of the LSCB and its constituent agencies.
To take a strategic overview of interagency training to promote effective practice to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
To implement an annual training programme that accords with the training strategy.
To continuously appraise material to ensure the quality and relevance of the course content, including use of current research evidence and to ensure that it meets agreed learning outcomes. To ensure that all material reflects an active respect for diversity and for the needs of children.
To ensure issues raised in local and nationally reported serious cases are included within the training programme.
To evaluate all aspects of training and ensure that appropriate standards are maintained and that the programme meets the requirements of the LSCB.
To contribute to the development of the LSCB business plan and to the annual report.
To contribute to the annual discussions over LSCB budget/resources.
Membership
The Training and Development sub committee will comprise of a member of each of the constituent agencies of the Derbyshire Safeguarding Children Board (DSCB).
Each member will have an interest/skill in training and will be able to contribute to the work of the committee either through training management or as a member of the multi agency training pool.
Members of the committee need to be in a position to make decisions in relation to training.

The T and D will report to the board on a quarterly basis
